What is ISO 22000:2018?
The standard combines the common ISO management system structure with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) principles and prerequisite programs, to control the hazards that could make a food unsafe at the point of consumption.
It applies the PDCA cycle at two levels: that of the management system as a whole and that of operational food safety processes. Communication along the food chain is a core requirement.
Benefits of certification
- Lower risk of contamination, product recalls and brand damage.
- Compliance with customer, retailer and export market requirements.
- Systematic hazard control with clear responsibilities and records.
- A foundation for GFSI-recognized schemes such as FSSC 22000, which build on ISO 22000.
Who it applies to
Food and beverage manufacturing, packaging, ingredients, storage and logistics, and food service. Also manufacturers of packaging that comes into contact with food.
